Our Story:
Beginning
We began this journey nearly 35 years ago learning from the experiences of being educators, parents, neighbors, friends, and foster parents that housing was central to success for all people. Housing that would provide a place of safety, community and security. The road blocks of independent home ownership are as wide as the societal ills that continue to exist today. So we took our thoughts and learnings and created One Love One Family with the belief that like minded individuals could create a community to assist, educate, and support people towards home ownership.
Why
We believe all people have within them a desire to be their personal best, and they instinctively know they must care for others since their success is one of interdependence. Home ownership is one of the only ways to lift up persons to create personal wealth that can sustain families, communities, and generations.
One Love One Family believes in the value of the human person and the gift they bring to the community. We believe we are here to serve one another and inside all people that desire is real and deeply valued. We plan to create a community of homes in which the clients work towards independent home ownership by following a specific individualized contract addressing their needs for success. One Love One Family will work with each client to ensure success with the goal of using the saved escrow from participation in the program to allow them a down payment to purchase a home.
How
We will seek and secure funds from independent businesses and persons, to fund the purchase of three homes near Saint Clair Shores Michigan. When we secure the funds to purchase our first home, the program will begin. We believe we need 250,000 dollars to secure and equip a home for the first clients. We will interview clients and serve those who have traditionally been underserved or face rental oppression. Each client will receive half of their intended rent placed in an escrow so to secure the funds once they complete the individualized contractual expectations. The escrow will secure the down payment. We will assist in financial literacy, support day care and assist with the educational needs of families. We will find resources and supports to assist in the clients growth toward interdependence.
Success:
Success is when One Love One Family has the funds to purchase our first home and begin to work with a family to assist them towards home ownership. Success will be when One Love One Family teaches clients to see themselves as an important part of the community and service minded. Success is when those who have much and give much allow those with less to experience the joy of working towards and being successful stewards of their own home.
